Jim Moran Pivots From ObamaCare to Climate Change And Misleads Constituents

Jim Moran

8th District Congresstool Jim Moran’s office issued the following press release (emphasis mine) touting ‘new’ climate change polling data. The brain dead Liberals at Blue Virginia posted about this here which is where I saw this.

Washington, DC – Congressman Jim Moran, Northern Virginia Democrat, participated in the release of new data showing a broad consensus on climate change and policies to cut greenhouse gas emission prepared by Stanford University Professor Jon Krosnick.

“House Republicans are keeping their heads in the sand on this issue, but the citizens of Virginia know better,” said Rep. Moran.

“We know that increasing concentrations of greenhouse gas were not caused by natural factors. We know that the severe temperatures and extreme weather events of recent years fit the predictive pattern of global climate change,” Rep Moran continued.  “And Virginians know the solution, it’s time for my colleagues to understand this reality and get on board with the need to address global climate change.”

The data shows that a majority of people in Virginia recognize the reality of climate change and the need to take urgent action – 81% of Virginians believe that climate change is occurring, and 76% believe it will pose a serious problem for the United States.

Except his statement on this poll is NOT entirely true and very misleading. Here’s why.

The publisher of the poll Mr. Moran is touting is Jon Krosnick (Krosnick@stanford.edu), director of Stanford’s Political Psychology Research Group.  Mr. Krosnick has been outed previously as a climate propagandist.

What Jim Moran doesn’t say to his constituents is that the above poll relies on a mix of recent polling data and some very old polling data going back to 2006. Professor Krosnick and Congressman Moran wants Virginians to believe that 2006 polling data is somehow relevant to today’s global warming debate. This polling data flies in the face of recent polling trends which most assuredly show Virginians and folks in other states question the legitimacy of climate change (see here, here, here, here, and here for examples of five (5) polls showing vastly different results). Is 2006 data relevant to 2013?

Maybe his staff failed to inform him that Professor Krosnick’s polling results on global warming have been challenged for years by his peers (see here, here, here, here, and here for five examples)?

What Virginians should be asking is that if Jim Moran thinks lying to his constituents is okay, what else has he lied about? Virginians deserve better. Our kids deserve better.
